Light Bodied Red

Light Bodied Red

Light-bodied red wines are typically pale in color (sometimes translucent) and they have light tannins. FYI, tannins can create a drying sensation in your mouth. (Think of chewing one of these items to understand tannins: grape seed, grape skin, banana string. You can also imagine putting a wet tea bag on your tongue to understand the mouth sensation.)

Although these descriptions may seem unpleasant, tannins in moderation add balance to wine (among other things). For this reason, light-bodied red wines with sound tannins are some of the most desirable wines in the world.
